Biography

Born June 29, 1970 in Moscow.

Graduated with distinction from Faculty of Chemistry of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1992.

In 1996 passed his PhD viva at the Chemical Faculty of Moscow State University, in 2005 defended his doctoral thesis entitled Supramolecular Metal-Complex Catalytic Systems for Petrochemical Synthesis (Petrochemistry).

Since 1993, he has been working at the Department of Petroleum Chemistry and Organic Catalysis of Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University as: junior researcher (1993-1997), researcher (1997-1999), senior researcher (1999-2006), leading researcher (1996-2012), associate professor (2012-2013). Since 2013 – Professor at this department. Since 2008, he has been the head of the Hydrocarbon Chemistry Laboratory of the A.V.Topchiev Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis of the Russian Academy of Sciences (TIPS RAS). From 2011 to 2017 – Deputy Director for Research. Since April 2017 – Director of TIPS RAS. In 2019, was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Department of Chemistry and Materials Sciences. In September 2022, was elected a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

A.L. Maksimov is one of Russia's leading scientists in the field of oil refining, petrochemistry and catalysis. Under his leadership, discovery research to develop new processes of hydrogenation, hydrodearomatization, hydroisomerization, hydrocracking of petroleum fractions using nano-heterogeneous catalysts is being carried out. Work is underway to create catalysts and processes for selective hydrogenation, hydroisomerization, oxidation, tandem transformations of hydrocarbons, oxo-synthesis. Research works in the field of hydrogen technologies, gas chemistry, catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide, processing of polymer waste and renewable raw materials are evolved.

A.L. Maksimov is the author of more than 200 scientific publications, co–author of 3 monographs and 35 patents. 9 candidates and 2 doctors of sciences were trained under his supervision.

A.L. Maksimov's scientific achievements were awarded the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology (2012) and the M.V. Lomonosov Prize for Scientific work (2004). He was awarded the second-class medal of the Order of Merit for the Motherland (2022).
