RussNeft announces the release of 2,417 sterlet fingerlings into the Volgograd Reservoi

04.09.2026 MK

The company's press service has announced the restocking of the Volgograd Reservoir (Volga River), with 2,417 fish fingerlings.

Environmental responsibility within the oil sector has become a strategic priority and an investment in the sustainable future. Moving in alignment with state policy under the National Project "Ecological Well-being," industry giants are actively channeling funds into "green" projects in order to minimize environmental impact. According to the press release, the stocking material, starlet, was raised and provided by the Teplovka Fish Hatchery. The release site was selected near the village of Chardym, Saratov Oblast, based on the most favorable environmental conditions. It is noted that a similar environmental campaign was carried out last October by the Saratov branch of RussNeft, when carp fingerlings were released into their natural habitat. Releasing young fish into the Volga River is an important element of the conserving aquatic biological resources, enabling the consistent and targeted restoration of their populations in hydrocarbon extraction areas. The company previously completed fish stocking projects in the Ob River basin. The release of young nelma and muksun, totaling 80.5 thousand fingerlings, is held annually with the company's support and organized by the Tyumen branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography. To compensate for the damage caused to aquatic biological resources, employees of the Ulyanovsk branch released young sterlet into the Kuibyshev Reservoir. The oil company's investment in restocking the Ob-Irtysh basin in 2026 amounted to 5.6 million rubles. Annual compensation for damage in oil-producing regions allows for the systematic restoration of reserves damaged during the development of Western Siberian fields.
